The pace is merciless, but these players don't tire as easily as their human counterparts.

Colombia is fine-tuning its "players" for the soccer world RoboCup championship.

Katherin Perez from the Santo Tomas University says engineers take their cues from real soccer games.

[Katherin Perez, Robot Engineer for Santo Tomas University]:
"We watch football games and then come back for some ideas on the defense and attack and to translate this part of human football to robot football."

And just like humans, the machines need to be able to recognize the ball, follow its movement and kick it before an opponent arrives.

The competition starts on June 26th in the Netherlands and the Colombians are up against teams from famous universities like Harvard and Stanford … which means they'll need to bring their A-game.
