South Korea on Friday (July 5) confirmed that North and South Korea had agreed to hold talks aimed at reopening a jointly run factory park for the North.
[Kim Hyung-suk, South Korean Unification Ministry Spokesman]:
"Regarding the proposal to hold a working-level meeting on the Kaesong Industrial Park made by our government yesterday, South and North Korea agreed to the talks at 10 a.m. (0100GMT) on July 6 at Panmunjom. We told the North that the agendas of the talks are the Kaesong Industrial Park's facility check and taking out finished and raw materials from the park as well as normalization of the industrial park."
The North had shut the zone down in April at the height of weeks of tension during which Pyongyang threatened both South Korea and the United States with nuclear annihilation.
