Whoopi Goldberg Debuts, "I Got Somethin' to Tell You" @ Tribeca Film Festival 2013
Whoopi Goldberg got something to tell you and she is saying it with her documentary “I Got Something to Tell You.” It debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend.
Comedian Moms Mabley, who is considered the first lady of stand up comedy, is celebrated and is the subject of Whoopi’s documentary.
This is Whoopi’s directorial debut and the premiere was star studded with the attendance of the festivals founder and actor Robert De Niro and wife Grace Hightower among others.
Whoopi, although proud of the project, was faced with some challenges
Whoopi ironically is showing her movie in the same theater that she frequented growing up in her Chelsea neighborhood
Mom Mabley’s story will go global with the distribution with HBO according to Hollywood reporter.com, HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins said “We’ve always known how special Moms was, and I can’t think of a better marriage.
Also to spread awareness Mom’s story, Whoopi reached out though Kickstarter.
HBO production has a release date possibly toward the end of the year.
