Fire-Triggered Blast in China Restaurant Kills 3 and Injures 149
A powerful blast ripped through a restaurant in northern China, killing three people and injuring 149 others, with 19 in critical condition.
A fire was first reported at the restaurant, which occupied two stories in an office building in Shuozhou City of Shanxi Province on Wednesday (June 19) night, local time.
While fire-fighters rushed in to put out the fire, an explosion occurred, reducing the building to piles of debris and scattering windows of nearby buildings.
Three fire trucks and dozens of vehicles parked nearby were damaged, and 13 fire-fighters were among the injured.
Photos showed injured people lying on ground, covered in blood.
Preliminary investigation suggests that natural gas pipes at the restaurant, which were still in trial operation, had exploded after the fire.
Further investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire.
