Rainstorms Interrupt Traffic in China
Torrential rain accompanied with strong winds struck several regions in northern and northwestern China over the past three days, flooding roads, uprooting trees, and interrupting traffic.
In the Emin County of Tacheng Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a strong rainstorm on Tuesday tore down trees, pushed down motorcycles and damaged houses. Torrential rain was also pouring down on the Xinjiang city of Aletai on Wednesday, flooding roads and upsetting local traffic.
In neighboring Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, rainstorms brought flooding to the city of Ergun. Torrential rains overflowed the Genhe River, flooding the nearby highway. At some parts of the Ergun section of the region's "Hailar-Amugulang" highway, water was over one meter deep on Tuesday, blocking over 100 vehicles.
