Heavy Rainfall in Southern China Kills 33
Heavy rainfall in southern China has killed at least 33 people, according to state media, with another 12 reportedly missing.
The rain started coming down on Tuesday, battering nine of China’s 23 provinces. Guangdong has been the worst hit.
Some areas in the province saw more than a foot of rainfall. This triggered heavy flooding, with one offshoot of the Beijiang River experiencing its worst flooding in a century, according to t state-run media.
An official at the Guangdong Meteorological Station said that the heavy rain could trigger landslides in some areas. Forecasters also predicted the rain would taper off on Friday but return to Guangdong on Saturday.
